Ten years have passed, but the memory of that profound 40-minute heart-to-heart conversation with my father remains etched in my mind. Little did I know that it would be our final exchange on this earthly plane.
I can still picture the scene vividly – sitting on the very same couch with my friends, unaware of the news that was about to shatter my world.
The call came, bearing the devastating news of your untimely departure, and in an instant, it felt like the very ground beneath me had crumbled away.
Yet, amidst this torrent of grief, it was the extraordinary bond between father and son, a bond so uniquely special, that carried me through even the darkest hours.
I wish to convey my deepest gratitude to you, Dad, for the invaluable lessons you imparted during your time on this earth.
I cannot begin to imagine the person I would be today if you had not dedicated your time to shaping me into the man I have become.
There is not a single day that passes without thoughts of you or echoes of your wise and comforting voice.
As I promised during our last conversation, I have wholeheartedly embraced your counsel, forgiving all, just as you had wisely advised me. It was a lesson I found hard to accept at the time, but now, I understand its profound wisdom.
May Allah SWT reward you for guiding me towards the path of righteousness, for teaching me the power of love over hate, and the virtue of forgiveness as we hope for forgiveness on the Day of Reckoning.
Though your physical presence is no longer with us, the indescribable void is somewhat eased by the knowledge that you served your Creator and cherished humanity until your very last breath in this tumultuous journey called life.
You faced trials that pushed the limits of human resilience, yet I am filled with unwavering certainty that you now rest in a far better place, cradled in the protective wings of our Creator.
Let me take this moment to solemnly renew my promise to you, Dad: I pledge to carry forward your mission, dedicated to shaping a brighter future for all.
You can rest assured that we, the New Generation, will work tirelessly to elevate the lives of our fellow Gambians beyond even your most audacious dreams, by the grace of the Almighty.
May Allah SWT grant you abundant rewards for your boundless love and kindness, for you were the epitome of the ideal father.
