Condemnation and a Stern Warning: President Barrow’s Offensive Remarks Evoke National Outrage…

4 min read

The citizens of The Gambia stand united in their unequivocal condemnation of the President’s recent display of immature and offensive behavior.

His deeply insulting statements aimed at the very parents who made the ultimate sacrifices for the sake of our nation, enabling individuals like him and his family to occupy the presidency today, are nothing short of disgraceful.

President Adama Barrow’s actions demonstrate a complete lack of respect for our collective intelligence as a nation.

He has resorted to spewing hatred against anyone who dares to voice disagreement with his misguided views and erratic leadership.

It is deeply disturbing that President Barrow has publicly endorsed the views of his predecessor, President Jammeh, who once declared that all those opposing his government would go to hell.

To add insult to injury, President Barrow now claims to be in full agreement with these views, despite previously expressing his disapproval. This sudden reversal is both bewildering and sickening to the core.

We must remind President Adama Barrow that, in the annals of our nation’s political history, he was an inconsequential figure.

Were it solely up to him, The Gambia would have been subjected to a one-party state. However, it is due to the bravery and ultimate sacrifices of countless patriotic citizens that he, President Adama Barrow, has become the chief beneficiary of their years of toil, blood, sweat, and tears.

Hence, if President Barrow believes he can recklessly spout derogatory remarks about those who paved the path to his current position, then he should also anticipate a robust response from their children, such as myself, who refuse to tolerate his unwarranted disrespect towards our late fathers.

If opposing a corrupt and inept government such as his is a ticket to hell, then one must ponder the fate of leaders like him, who sacrificed their own integrity to ascend to the presidency, devoid of vision or competence.

Furthermore, one must question the destiny of leaders who callously inflict pain and suffering on their fellow citizens and are associated with the deaths of many innocent people, akin to his counterpart, Dictator Macky Sall of Senegal.

As for my late father, he never violated anyone’s rights, yet he was relentlessly pursued by malevolent forces hiding behind the guise of governance. They subjected him and his family to untold suffering.

Does this mean he, too, is destined for hell simply for opposing President Barrow’s predecessor?

If that’s the case, why did President Barrow assume leadership after my father’s passing and the subsequent arrest of the entire UDP executive?

Were these individuals punished for merely exercising their fundamental rights, as guaranteed in our constitution?

Was President Barrow genuinely offended by the mistreatment my father and others endured for decades, as he claimed during his nationwide campaign, or was he merely seizing an opportunity presented to him?

President Adama Barrow, please exercise some self-respect and take heed: we will not tolerate your nonsensical comments and insults directed at our parents any longer. If you have the audacity to spew derogatory remarks about those who raised you up, rest assured we will respond in kind, and consequences will follow.

If, by any chance, you have a father you can be genuinely proud of or a father who contributed positively to our motherland, then share that with us; let the people know.

I, for one, am a proud son of a man who mentored and supported you extensively.
Every Gambian is aware of this fact, and despite your fiery rhetoric, you cannot deny it.

However, I wouldn’t be surprised if you now turn against him. Your offensive statement reveals that you are nothing short of a traitor and an ingrate, President Barrow.

In time, the full story will emerge, and ultimately, time alone will serve justice, by the grace of the Almighty.

Consider this a final warning, Mr. President. Exercise caution with your words before you find yourself in a situation you cannot control, jeopardizing not only yourself but your family as well.

A word to the wise should be sufficient.
