In response to recent events, the Unifying Liberation Party (U.L.P) issues this press release to express its profound concerns regarding President Adama Barrow’s response to the tragic events of September 12th, which resulted in the loss of our nation’s brave heroes.

President Barrow’s announcement of a one million Dalasis reward for information leading to the capture of the alleged perpetrators behind this shocking atrocity has raised serious questions about his administration’s approach to this heartbreaking situation.

Our concerns stem from the President’s apparent emphasis on material incentives for the apprehension of these alleged wrongdoers, seemingly overshadowing the necessity to address the underlying issues surrounding this tragedy.

This approach not only demonstrates a concerning lack of empathy for the grieving families but also reveals a disconnect with the gravity of the situation.

Furthermore, President Barrow’s recent involvement in political activities and disputes with opposition figures raises alarms about his priorities during this critical time.

It appears to be part of his effort to hold onto power, despite signs that he has not fulfilled his promises to the Gambian people.

The U.L.P strongly asserts that President Barrow’s inability to empathize with the victims of state-sponsored violence, including our fallen heroes, and his insensitivity to the nation’s mourning are deeply disheartening.

These actions hinder efforts to foster unity and constructive dialogue in our nation, in stark contrast to his earlier calls for peaceful dialogue with the opposition.

Moreover, President Barrow’s attempts to shift blame onto political opponents and his threats to democratic institutions undermine the core principles of free speech and open discourse that are essential to our democracy. Such actions are inconsistent with the ideals of responsible leadership.

We urgently call upon President Adama Barrow to reevaluate his approach to this national tragedy and to focus on addressing the crisis that has left our citizens in a state of shock and insecurity.

It is imperative that he redirects his attention to the welfare of our people, reaffirms his commitment to democratic values, and refrains from making divisive statements against political rivals and media organizations.

Additionally, we demand an unreserved apology for his unwarranted insults directed at the opposition leader, His Excellency Lawyer Ousainou Darboe.

His profoundly ill-considered statements are entirely unjustifiable and have plummeted far beneath the expected standards of professionalism for any respectable head of state.

The U.L.P remains steadfast in upholding the principles of democracy, free speech, and the rule of law. As an emerging party of the New Generation, we stand in unwavering solidarity with all those adversely affected by recent hate speech and verbal attacks launched by the President and his administration.

We vehemently denounce these assaults and call for calm and restraint in response to such actions.

In conclusion, we implore our nation’s leaders, including President Adama Barrow, to exhibit responsible leadership and prioritize unity and constructive dialogue as we collectively address the grievances and concerns of our citizens.

Only through these concerted efforts can we aspire to a brighter and more prosperous future for The Gambia.

Yours sincerely,
Sulayman Shyngle Nyassi ~ UK 🇬🇧
Leader of the Unifying Liberation Party (U.L.P)
